HALP!

The busy season is strongly upon me at work and it feels like I'm drowning in digital drudgery.  These little kitty cat pictures are the only funny thing about it. I've found that folks respond with a bit more lightness when I attach one of these to an email.

I've taken a few pictures of Derville and I am trying to come up with a few "i can haz" of my own. Stay tuned!

Nina Simone - Prophetess

Not only is she an amazing musician, singer and songwriter, Nina Simone is also a wonderful inspiration for being a strong woman. Head held high and eyes that peer into the soul. The lines of her body speak an ancient wisdom - nothing less than a prophetess.

Someday we'll get it together and we'll get it undone
Someday when the world is much brighter
Someday we'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun
Someday when the world is much lighter

O-o-h child things are gonna get easier
O-o-h child things 'll get brighter

"Ooh Child" by Nina Simone

O-o-h child things are gonna get easier
O-o-h child things 'll get brighter
O-o-h child things are gonna get easier
O-o-h child things 'll get brighter

Someday we'll get it together and we'll get it undone
Someday when the world is much brighter
Someday we'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun
Someday when the world is much lighter

O-o-h child things are gonna get easier
O-o-h child things 'll get brighter
O-o-h child things are gonna get easier
O-o-h child things 'll get brighter

Someday we'll get it together and we'll get it undone
Someday when the world is much brighter
Someday we'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun
Someday when the world is much lighter

O-o-h child things are gonna get easier
O-o-h child things 'll get brighter
O-o-h child things are gonna get easier
O-o-h child things 'll get brighter

Someday we'll get it together and we'll get it undone
Someday when the world is much brighter
Someday we'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun
Someday when the world is much lighter

O-o-h child things are gonna get easier
O-o-h child things 'll get brighter
O-o-h child things are gonna get easier
O-o-h child things 'll get brighter
Right now right now

To the ends of the earth, would you follow me

As I bounced around Idaho and many connecting airports over the last month, "Ends of the Earth" by Lord Huron was my solace. Never the type to stay in one place very long, but also never quite sure where else to go. Like a stranger, I moved through the world - in and out of airports, hotels and cabs - for weeks. Like a ghost or a whisper, only slightly noticed.

During my travels, only one person was following me - Jason. He was the only person in the world that knew where to find me. He knew how to get to me if I needed him. He would've walked to me if I needed him - and I would've met him in the middle. It feels like we have an imaginary tether that will connect us together forever.

It's so comforting to know that there is one person out there who would follow me to the ends of the earth. If I get lost, he will find me. And when we reunite it will be magical.

Thanks, Lord Huron for another great song.

To the ends of the earth, would you follow me
There's a world that was meant for our eyes to see

"Ends of the Earth" by Lord Huron

Ooh, ooh

Oh, there's a river that winds on forever
I'm gonna see where it leads
Oh, there's a mountain that no man has mounted
I'm gonna stand on the peak

Out there's a land that time don't command
Wanna be the first to arrive
No time for ponderin' why I'm-a wanderin'
Not while we're both still alive

To the ends of the earth, would you follow me
There's a world that was meant for our eyes to see
To the ends of the earth, would you follow me
Well if you won't, I will say my goodbyes to thee

Oh, there's an island where all things are silent
I'm gonna whistle a tune
Oh, there's a desert that size can't be measured
I'm gonna count all the dunes

Out there's a a world that calls for me, girl
Headin' out into the unknown
Well if there are strangers, and all kinds of danger
Please don't say I'm going alone

To the ends of the earth, would you follow me
There's a world that was meant for our eyes to see
To the ends of the earth, would you follow me
Well if you want, I will say my goodbyes to thee

I was a-ready to die for you, baby
Doesn't mean I'm ready to stay
What good is livin' a life you've been given
If all you do is stand in one place

I'm on a river that winds on forever
Follow 'til I get where I'm goin'
Maybe I'm headin' to die but I'm still gonna try
I guess I'm goin' alone

Evel Knievel Snake River Canyon Jump Site

(Made the detour and took these pictures especially for my two favorite men: Jason and Dad.)

I'm in Twin Falls, Idaho this week staying less than a mile from the site where Evel Knievel tried (and failed) to jump the Snake River Canyon in 1971 so my colleague and I took a quick detour to snap a few pictures.

This is the very unassuming monument (looks like the metal plaque part fell out) near the bridge but still 2 miles from the actual jump site.

Here's the dirt ramp in the distance from which Evel jumped his rocketcycle.

Here's a few pics of the river and canyon. Our hotel is less than a mile from this canyon and I would've had NO IDEA it was here without being informed by the aforementioned favorite men.

See the little waterfall?

Here's a picture of the ONLY bridge in the U.S. that it is legal to BASE jump off of. Here's some dudes jumping and landing. 486 feet!

under the bridge - a little scary!

Letting the chute open first...

Jumping
 Landing

Walking back up the canyon trail - they look so tiny!!

And an Idaho recap wouldn't be complete without a shot of the Mormon temple.

Idahooooooooooo!!!

She Lit a Fire - Lord Huron

This is one of many songs of the summer. I've been traveling so much this summer that I've picked a few go-to albums that I can listen to while on planes, walking around, hanging out in the hotel. The Lumineers and Lord Huron have definitely marked the summer of 2013 in my musical heart forever.

It's been awhile since I remembered a summer by the music that I listened to on permanent repeat. This will forever be the summer of  The Lumineers and Lord Huron and travels to Idaho. Which, by the way, I'm in process of doing right now. I'm currently typing away at a bar/restaurant in the Salt Lake City airport. I have about  3 hours to kill before my puddle jumper flight to Twin Falls, Idaho.

Enjoy the music!

"She Lit a Fire" by Lord Huron

I've been through the desert
And I've been across the sea
I've been walking through the mountains
I've wandered through the trees
For her

I have been trying to find her
Want to give what I got
She lit a fire
But now she's in my every thought

Where, could that girl have gone
Where, I've wandered far
Where, could that girl have gone
She left no trail but I cannot fail
I will find her

She lit a fire
But now she's in my every thought
She lit a fire
But now she's in my every thought

Where, could that girl have gone
Where, I've wandered far
Where, could that girl have gone
She left no trace but I know her face
I will find her

When last I saw her she was dancing all alone
Perhaps my chance was then, I'll never know
I'll search the world until there's no place left to go
And if she leaves it, I will follow
Yes I will follow

She lit a fire
But now she's in my every thought
She lit a fire
But now she's in my every thought

I've been through the desert
And I've been across the sea
I've been walking through the mountains
I've wandered through the trees
For her

I have been trying to find her
Want to give what I got
She lit a fire
But now she's in my every thought

Lovely Day

Ahhh, this song feels right for today.

Lovely Day by Bill Withers

When I wake up in the mornin', love
And the sunlight hurts my eyes
And somethin' without warnin', love
Bears heavy on my mind

Then I look at you
And the world's alright with me
Just one look at you
And I know it's gonna be

A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)

A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)

When the day that lies ahead of me
Seems impossible to face
When someone else instead of me
Always seems to know the way

Then I look at you
And the world's alright with me
Just one look at you
And I know it's gonna be

A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)

A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)

When the day that lies ahead of me
Seems impossible to face
And when someone else instead of me
Always seems to know the way

Then I look at you
And the world's alright with me
Just one look at you
And I know it's gonna be

A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)

A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)

A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)

A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)

A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)

A lovely day
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
(Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day)
