2011 BCS National Championship: Auburn vs. Oregon -- Post edit -- Auburn Wins!!

First things first...

My alma mater (Auburn) versus my newly adopted home team (Oregon) are going to duke it out tonight for the national championship!!

This is really a dream come true. Although I will always bleed orange and blue, I have to admit that I'll be happy if either team wins.

It should be an interesting match up. According to the talk around town, it's been quite awhile since the Ducks got very far in the championships. It's funny to watch the news here because the Oregon fans are having to make up fight songs and chants. They aren't very creative either - for example one goes like this - "I love being a Duck - I love being  a Duck..."(and repeat gratuitously).

Now at Auburn, I remember during freshman orientation we had a mini pep rally where they taught us all of the chants like Boda Getta and made us learn the fight song:

War...Eagle, fly down the field, Ever to conquer, never to yield.
War...Eagle fearless and true. Fight on, you orange and blue.
Go! Go! Go!
On to victory, strike up the band,
Give 'em hell, give 'em hell.
Stand up and yell, Hey! War...Eagle, win for Auburn,
Power of Dixie Land!

At the time it seemed a little obsessive but now I think it's awesome that I was (and always will be) a part of such strong tradition and deep roots.

In addition to the songs and chants, I always loved the tradition of rolling Toomer's Corner when Auburn won the game. It was such a rush to run wildly from the stadium (with 80,000+ others) through campus, raiding all buildings of TP and participating in the wonderment that is rolling your own campus. It's definitely not the greenest tradition, but it's totally worth it.

Hopefully this is what Toomer's Corner will look like this evening.

Note: Watch out for industrial sized TP rolls - they hurt coming down!

Oh yeah, BTW, Auburn's quarterback, Cam Newton, won the Heisman trophy this year. Soooo...yeah that might help things on the Auburn side a little ;-)

Post-edit: Auburn beats Oregon 22-19 with a field goal in the last two seconds of the 4th quarter!!!
