The Lighter Taste of Jamaica

There's always been a special place in my heart for Red Stripe. It has something to do with my mom, puberty, Dunn's River Falls Jamaica, and a beer shack that only served (warm) Red Stripe.

So I was completely surprised when Jason brought home Red Stripe Light!

I love the "HOORAY LIGHT BEER!" line.

Here's to you, Mom...thanks for sitting with me and having a beer while everyone else climbed the falls.

(I barely even remember all the flies :-)
Love you

One car for one year

So I get a message on my voicemail from the Ford dealership today reminding me that it's been one year since we traded in our 2 four-door cars for 1 two-door car.

It's hard to believe it's been a year!

I thought it would be difficult having only one car, but I can confidently say that it has not been that bad. Yes, there were a few times that having two cars would have made it easier, but it wasn't necessary. We have public transit and bikes and feet...

I decided to look online to get an idea of how much we have DECREASED our carbon footprint by doing the car-shuffle boogie. Since I don't know what our consumption was while we had two cars, I just experimented with calculating where we are now.

Here's the breakdown from

We're looking pretty good on the graph above.

Esitmated emissions are lower than the US average, but higher than the World average.

I'm not quite sure how they came up with this pie chart above based on the questions they asked.

However, I would like to see a comparison showing the World average behavior breakdown...

Getting into a new racket

So we bought a couple inexpensive tennis racquets, a few cans of balls and found a tennis court nearby.

It looked like we found a diamond in the rough.

Until we got closer...

Net? No.
Lines? Yes.
So we played.
It was a great time and I see much more tennis in our future!

Bring it on!!!

Tuesday, July 06, 2010

I'm too spaced out to write right now... I'll have to sing about butterflies and cabbages and images that linger awhile in the beauty of forgetfulness.

"I've got you covered" by Biff Rose

These lyrics are great! Please take a listen.

When asked who this song is about, Rose said he had a few people in mind, but mostly it was about himself.

"You" means "I" more often than you'd think...

Well hello, July

As soon as I opened my eyes this morning, I thought "Geeeez, is it really July!?!"

It is.

The year is halfway over and it all seems like a blur to me now. So when I flipped the page on my inspirational calendar this morning, the poignancy of July's quote was not lost on me:

We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake, not by mechanical aid, but by an infinite expectation of the dawn.

~Henry David Thoreau

This also reminds me of one of my favorite Jim Croce songs, Tomorrow's Gonna Be a Brighter Day,

And tomorrow's gonna be a brighter day

There's gonna be some changes

Tomorrow's gonna be a brighter day

This time you can believe me

No more cryin' in your lonely room

And no more empty nights

'Cause tomorrow mornin' everything will turn out right

There are so many songs and quotes that comfort by reminding us that we don't know what tomorrow will bring, but it won't be the same as today.

Be awake, be aware, be ready for the dawn.
